A practice that Connects Health and Wellness differently
I've taken work and experience as a Physiotherapist, Healthcare Leader, accredited Coach and Advanced Functional Breathwork Practitioner to create Roots and Stars - an integrated and inquisitive practice.
Its my mission to understand what matters to you, and how you want to live your life with more ease.
My professional development continues to draw knowledge and inspiration from an eclectic mix of fields ranging from scientific research through to spiritual ecology practices and creative nourishment of poetry and writing.
Whilst I'm a sole founder and owner of this business in its current form, I'll often talk as 'we'.
I want to acknowledge the many that have informed and inspired my practice so far, and recognise those who continue to support my development and offer consultancy to the evolution of this work.
We'll be alongside you as you move from struggle to living a life of more ease and energy
Sometimes, the most important parts of your day are the pauses between breaths, the rest between movement and the silence between talking.....
Meaningful & Successful Programmes
I take time to understand what matters to you and how to integrate this into meaningful and successful programmes that recognise your starting point.
Leading with evidence based practice entwined with heart and soul to harness the power of our bodies, minds and spirit.
Forever conscious of the world we live in, I am influenced by our beautiful natural world.
Ren's Story
Short Version
My practice embraces influences across my life, from music to outdoor adventures to writing and of course family and friends.
I enjoyed a 21 year career in the NHS - working in a variety of hospitals across the West Midlands and moving into community services across Warwickshire. This provides me with great insight and experience regarding the challenges and positives of meaningful living, relationships with others and systems we live, work and connect with.
I've lived the good times and challenging times that come with raising two daughters - both now fully fledged adults, living life well. And I know the heartaches many of us face through life, alongside the normal and joyful times.
I love being active outdoors, especially in or on the water, in forests and generally wandering. Am curious and adventurous with a small 'a'!
And when I need mental restoration, I'm at my writing desk or listening to something from my vinyl collection.
I have met thousands of people in and through my work - patients, family, friends and colleagues. This has rooted firmly my belief that our relationships with others, as well as our selves, are key to finding contentment and feeling safe.
Long Version
An introvert who loves nature and is often deep in thought or people watching, I began my Physiotherapy career in my late twenties. Although the spark of it was lit many years previously watching a documentary about Romanian orphanages. Some of the children there received Conductive Education – a particular approach to rehabilitation that recognised a person’s potential with a focus on what they can do.
I kept revisiting the idea and became more and more fascinated with the body’s ability to restore itself so a person could return to or create new movements and more importantly – meaningful function for a meaningful life.
In my late twenties, with two small daughters, I took the plunge and started the journey towards becoming a Physiotherapist – graduating from University of Birmingham in 2004.
Spending my early career in Birmingham and Solihull, I found what I really enjoyed after taking a role in Coventry working in a community team – visiting people in their own homes.
This took me to a new role in Leamington - my first leadership role.
Just before I started, I developed a disc prolapse at L5/S1 causing me to lose sensation and movement in my foot. It was a real wake up call and I was thankful that I had the knowledge and ability to rehabilitate myself over the following weeks and months. I see that time as an education. It was the first time I truly understood the difficulty of describing and living with deep, long lasting pain, realising it as a whole body experience, leaving me exhausted and emotional. I often revisit the experience to keep myself informed and grounded. It wasnt until many years later that I discovered the value and power of coaching practices to help clients connect, understand and manage their own pain in many different ways.
My driving force is wanting to make a difference and specifically where I see injustice or space for improvements. I took on leadership, education and improvement roles which gave me a chance to support and develop colleagues as well as patients. Having spent most of my career in Warwickshire, I spent some time working in East Staffordshire for Virgin Care.
2024 seemed the right time for me to leave the NHS and go back to what inspired me on the path originally – at its heart, a passion for doing what I can to enable others to achieve a meaningful, successful life with ease using the combined force of breath, body and soul.
